Intiqaam e Yazeedan: Marsiya

Imam e Hanaf was maternal step-brother of Imam Hussain. This is one of the elegy from *Intiqaam e Yazeedan* Masnavi.

How shall I say, how aggrieved was Abu Imam crying,

Hymning elegies on brothers, with heart ever sighing.

Alas! My own Imam Husain,

Beloved of Mustafa (SAW), light of eyes again.

Ah! Piece of heart of Ali, so bright,

Alas! The basil of Prophet’s garden of light.

Alas! Husain, with manners so fine,

Alas! The prince of the noble line.

Alas! Imam Husain, the blessed one,

Martyred in Karbala by Yazid’s scorn.

Alas! Husain, with closeness to God,

Became martyr, parched-lipped, beneath the rod.

Alas! The pleased one, Imam Husain,

Fell unsuspecting in Karbala’s plain.

Alas! The king of Khilafat’s throne,

Whose pamperer was Jibrail alone.

Alas! That prince, the peerless one,

Whose lap and fragrance were Jibrail’s own.

Alas! Hussain, the rider of Zuljanah,

Alas! His sacred blood they deemed allowed to draw.

Alas! That king, Imam Husain,

That my own brother, Imam Husain.

Alas! My brothers, brave and tall,

Qasim, Fazil, Muslimah all.

Alas! Abbas, Talha, Zubair,

All those brave brothers, pure and fair.

Alas! Those princes, precious and bright,

My brothers all, of one descent and light.

Alas! The piece of Hasan’s heart,

Those special princes, set apart.

They, innocents all, as martyrs lay,

While I in Hanaf, knew not that day.

O mother of Muslim, Imam Zaman,

A hundred princes martyred; gone.

Why did they not tell me after all,

When each lay slain beyond recall.
