3. Injustice: Kashmiri Proverbs



گُہٕل گُپن نوٗن کھؠٚوان، گھری گُپن موٗن لؠٚوان

Guhil gupan noon khewaan, gharri gupan moon lewaan

Guhil gupan: گُہٕل گُپن : The cattle who are in high altitude meadows during the summer season and have best of food available with no work to do or provisions like milk to provide.

Moon: موٗن : Skin of cattle.

The meadow cattle eat the salt, the home cattle lick the skin.

It has been a tradition that the owners of the cattle—the cattle who are in summer pastures of high altitude meadows—carry salt with them for their cattle. At home it's usually ignored with the presumption that home based cattle will get it naturally while grazing. But these cattle usually doesn't get enough salt, so they lick their own bodies to get the taste of salt.

وژِھس گؠڈ تہ داندس لوۄ
یِنصاف روۄ تہ ونو کس
کہن گرن کُنی تٲوِ
ہؠمتھ رٲوِ تہ ونو کس 

Wacchis ged te daandas lov.
Yinsaph rov te wanav kas?
Kahan garan kuniy taev,
Hemath raev te wanav kas?

Bundle of shief to the calf, and only one to the ox,
Justice is lost, to whom should we complain?
A single frying pan for eleven households,
The courage is lost, to whom should we complain?

دہن تھاوٕن سۓ اکِس نہ تراوُن وۓ

Dahan thaavin sai te akis ne traavin wai.

Sai: سۓ : Sai literally means earnest money but translates to a promise as well.
Wai: وۓ : Wai is daily allowance of food, especially rice(staple diet).

Giving word to ten but daily allowance not to a single person.

The proverb is used when a person is not trustworthy. By extension it can be used for injustice also.

There is another proverb where word wai وۓ is used:

گھری نہٕ وۓ تہ سؠتارس غلاف

Gharri ne wai ti setaras gilaaf.

No daily allowance of food at home, but decorative cover for the musical instrument.

It depicts showoff or ostentation.

 گٲو مار بوٗز سارِوٕیو داندٕ مار بوٗز نہ کانٚسہ

Gaev maar booz saarwui te daand maar booz ne kaansi

The thrashing of cow was heard by everyone; Nobody heard the thrashing of ox.

Another version is:

 گٲو نیای بوٗز سارِوٕیو داندٕ نیای بوٗز نہ کانٚسہ

Gaev nyaay booz saarwui te daand nyaay booz ne kaansi

The (version of) dispute of cow was heard by everyone; Nobody heard the (version of) dispute of ox.

اُتہِ نہِ بلایہ لاگُن تُت

Utti ne balayo lagun tutt

Sacrificing Utt for the (fault) of Tutt.

Miscarriage of justice.

Explanation:
Utt and tutt seems to be identification of persons on the basis of their appearances. Tutt means one who is either slender or weak or whose facial appearance is pointed or with long face. Utt may mean just it's opposite.

پۄتلؠن پوٗزا، گھرِکؠن اِزا

Potlen puza te ghariken iza

Worshipping the idols (but) tormenting the family members.

Pretending to be religious but tormenting the family members.
In Kashmir, Puja(Worship) is pronounced as Puza.

پر گگُر کڈان گھر گھرس

Parr gagur kadaan ghar ghaghras

The outsider mouse evicts the insider mouse.

Parr Gagur: پر گگُر :The outsider mouse
Ghar Gagur: گھر گگُر : The mouse that is settled in a house  since long.

A simple example of Israel-Palestine will suffice for the explanation.
