مدٲنو پردہٕ رویس تُل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل

مسا لاگ بے وفا بالکل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Madaeno pardeh royas tul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.

Masa laag bewafa bilkul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Dardeh: دردہٕ: Affectionately, lovingly (Root word Dard درد i.e., pity, sympathy, compassion.


O beloved, lift the veil from your face,  

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.  

Do not feign complete unfaithfulness,  

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

The stanza presents the opening scene where the lover asks beloved to remove the veil and not to pretend to be totally unrelated to the lover.


ولو میانی کالہٕ بومبوٗرو

أچھن ہیوند گاش تِہ نوٗرو

سُلے یِمبرزلے وِیوٗر تُل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Walov myaani kaaleh bombuuro,

Aechhan huend gaashe te nuuro.

Sulay yimbirzalay vyuur tul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Vyuur: وِیوٗر: Sap


Come, my black bumblebee,

Light and darling of my eyes.

Gather early the sap from the Narcissus,

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

Bumblebee and the Yimbirzal are considered to be the separated lovers in Kashmiri folklore. Yimbirzal appears in the early spring while as Bumblebee in late Autumn. The lover urges beloved to appear in its life early and relish the love or they will never have the union.


ولو متہٕ یِم بہانہ تراو

سۄ کۄسہٕ لٔنڈ یتھ نہ لوگمُت واو

سُہ کُس گُل یتھ نہ وُچھہ بُلبل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Walov matti yim bahaneh traav,

Soa kos laend yath ne logumut waav.

Su kus gul yath ne wuchhi bulbul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Come, ecstatic beloved, cast aside these excuses,  

No branch is spared the whispering wind.  

No flower escapes the nightingale’s gaze,  

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

"Waav lagun" may suggests that just as every branch feels the wind’s touch, no heart can remain untouched by love. Love is inevitable and universal, and so is the admiration and love of beauty. If these are all natural and inescapable things, then such excuses to avoid union with the lover are not valid.


ولو میانی لوکچارو وے

زلہٕ وُنہٕ نو بہارو وے

دماہ ژھۄہ مار دۄہ چُھے سُل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Walov myaani lokcharo waiy,

Zalle wuni nav baharo waiy.

Dama chhoh maar doh chhui sul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Zalle wun: زلہٕ وُن: freshly lit

Chhoh: ژھۄہ : To enjoy


Ah! Come, my youthfulness,  

A firelit spring anew.  

Enjoy a while—morning still hums,

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

The nascent stage of love is not much ardous. So the lover urges himself to enjoy this moment as in the later stages you may not be able to enjoy the journey of love.


سزے یِتھ پٲٹھی مؠژی منز تیل

نتہٕ یتھ آبہٕ پیالس نیل

تِتھے پٲٹھی تس تِہ میٚہ گوۄ مِؠُٚل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Sazai yith paeth mechhi manz teel,

Natte yath aabeh pyaalas neel.

Tithaiy paeth tass ti mey gov myul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Sazun: سزُن: To seep in

Neel: نیل: Indigo dye

Myul: مِؠُٚل: Union


Like oil seeping into the soil,  

Or indigo dissolving into a cup of water,  

So too have my beloved and I become one. 

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

The similies used for union of lover and beloved are very grand but from day to day life thus adding beauty to the stanza.


میٚہ اوسُم دشمنی ہیُند زر

خبر ٲسِم نہ اے دلبر

چِھہ ماران دوستی بالکل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Mey oasum dushmani huend zar,

Khabar aaesim ne aye dilbar.

Chhi maaran dosti bilkul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Zar: زر: Fear, apprehension 


I used to have fear of enmity,

I didn't however, knew O beloved,

That the friendship kills altogether,

Yet still, let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

Love is more dangerous that the enmity as it destroys a person within if union not achieved with the beloved.


بدن زےٕ پوش تُلی چُھے پوٗر

نتہٕ دُرِ عدن مشہور

قدن چٲنی روزِ مہشر تُل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Badan ziy posh tuill chhi puur,

Natte durr e adan mash-huur.

Qadan chaen roz e mahshar tul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Durr e Adan: دُرِ عدن: Pearl of Heaven


Your form is but two petals in full bloom,

A celestial pearl-the famous one.

Your presence stirs the Doomsday,

Yet, still let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

Even though the beloved is tender like flower petals but the appearance is no less than doomsday stirrer.


میٚہ چانہ وؠرہٕ ژٲلِم تیر

انِم تٲویز ژھانڈم پیر

پھۄلِم بیہٕ مشکہٕ دار کاکُل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Mey chaani vaereh chaelim teer,

Anim taeveez chhandim peer.

Pholim beyi mushkeh daar kakul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Veareh: وؠرہٕ: For sake of

Kakul: کاکُل : Tresses/Curls


For your sake, I braved the arrows,  

Gathered amulets, sought the saints.  

Your fragrant tresses again bloomed upon me,

Let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

For the sake of beloved, the lover ensured hardships and at the same time sought divine intervention for the union. These endeavours, though very taxing, helped to gain the attention of the beloved, though not union.


درے کنہٕ لایِتھم زورہٕ

پُھٹرتھم شیشہ مندورہٕ

مدٲنو دل پُھٹُن چھا کُل

 بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Darray kanni layitham zoareh,

Phuthirtham sheesheh mandoareh.

Madaeno dil phutun chhune kul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Mandoareh: مندورہٕ: Palace


Forcefully you hurled firm stones at me,  

Shattered my glass palaces.  

O beloved, a broken heart is not like a tree,

Yet still, let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.


Explanation:

A falling tree echoes through the forest, but a breaking heart shatters in silence. The beloved razed the fragile palace of love the lover so carefully built, yet the lover still longs to adorn them with beautiful flowers.


کران آزادنُے تقریر

چِھہ زن وٲلنجہ یوان تیر

چِھہ پٔزی پٲٹھی خستہٕ جان بالکل

بو لاگۓ دردہٕ ہی تِہ گُل


Karaan Azaadnui taqreer,

Chhi zan waelinji yiwaan teer.

Chhi paezz paaeth khasteh jaan bilkul,

Bu laagai dardeh hee ti gul.


Waelinj: وٲلنج: Heart


The oratory of Azad strikes deep,  

Like arrows piercing the heart.  

He is, in truth, a life undone,  

Yet still, let me adorn you affectionately with jasmine and roses.
