55. Chaamir chattir: Lall Dedh

 ژامر چھتر رتھ سمہاسن

ہلاد ناٹی رس تلہء پرینکھ

کیاہ مأنتھ! یتیہِ ستھر آسوُن؟

کوءزن کأسی مرننی شینکھ

Chaamir, chhatir, rath, samhaasan, 

Hlaad naati-ras talle pryenkh. 

Kya maaenith! Yeti sthir aasvun? 

Ko-zan kaaesi marnin shyenk. 

ژامر: Fly-whisk 

چھتر: Umbrella like canopy for shade

رتھ: Chariot

سمہاسن: Throne

ہلاد: To rejoice

ناٹی-رس: Drama and dance

پرینکھ: Couch, Bed, Sofa

ستھر: Level, steady, permanently fixed

کوءزن: A wicked person

شینکھ: Doubt, uncertainty 

All these words are from sanskrit language.

Grierson translates this vaakh as:

A royal chowry, sunshade, chariot, throne, 

Happy revels, the pleasure of theatre, a bed of cotton down, _

Bethink thee which of these is lasting in this world,

And how can it take from thee the fear of death?

Jiya Lal Koul translates it as:

A royal fly-wisk, sunshade, chariot and throne, 

Merry revels, pleasure of the theatre, a bed of cotton down, _

Which of these, you think, will go with you when you are dead? 

How then can you dispel the fear of death? 

Nandlal Koul translates it as:

عیش و عشرت, رقص و نغمہ, تخت و تاج

راگ رنگ اسباب, قندیل و زجاج

ان مین کچھ بھی جاودانی ہے یہان؟

موت ایک دہشت, اس کا کیا علاج

I have understood it a bit differently from all these (though I may be wrong)

My translation:

(You possess the royal things like)The fly-whisk, the umbrella canopy, the chariot, the throne, 

(And you also) rejoice watching drama and dance (the imperial entertainment of past) on a soft couch. 

Do you take granted that these things will remain here (fixed permanently)? 

The wicked person(Angel of death is always wicked person for those who don't want to die) will erase this doubt and uncertainty of yours about the death.
