48. Nyama Saeb: Chi gachhtai jastai...

Chi gachhtai jasteh hai weiss, asteh wan yaarasai,

Jasteh: جستہٕ : Quickly

Asteh: استہٕ : Gently

You go hurriedly my friend, tell gently to my Beloved,

Whether He listens or not, still tell my Beloved.

The poet calls upon his friend(female friend) to be a messenger between him and his Beloved. As mentioned earlier, most of the Kashmiri Poetry is feminine in expression. Whether the Beloved listens or not tells that one must not become disappointed if the Beloved doesn't answer quickly. Beloved here is God. The trailing rhyme (qaafiya) of the whole poem is feminine in tone and denotes closeness and frankness with the friend.

Awal yelli lodun Aadam, ranga rang pholis baadam,

Pemas na tal paadan, namas koar kaabasai.

At first when He created Aadam, bloomed myriad colours by breathing soul in it,

(Thus) I will fall on the feet, which direction shall I bow to Kaaba.

First thing that poet tells his friend is that when his Beloved created Adam and breathed soul into him, it caused many virtues to flow out of him. Having this grandeur why shall not I search Him inside my heart. Falling on feet may mean lowering ones head towards feet and facing it towards heart while in meditation. When God is in heart, which direction of the Kaaba shall a lover take to bow before Beloved? Please note that this never means that praying towards the direction of Kaaba is refuted but simply means that facing Kaaba without finding God in heart is vain.

Mey seeit kya korun waadai, bu troavnas uftaadai,

Rawa chha dakke kaayun, nakhhe watith khaamasai.

What did He do to the promise made to me, left me in distress,

Is it proper to push back a person who is yet raw (in love)!

God says that one who takes a step towards Me, I take stride towards him. Poet here tells her friend to tell his Beloved what happened to that promise. Is it good to shove away a person who is yet raw in love but at least is trying to love?

Bu chhayose sanni chuuray, shama zaalith zuuray,

Chhu kya tattie shor wothmut, zor ashqe naarasai.

Sanni chuuray :سٔنۍ ژوٗرے : Burglary

Zuuray: زوٗرے : Craftily

I entered to commit theft, very craftily with a candle lit,

There (I saw) how great a clamour has arisen, the fire of love is rageful.

I tried to find God clandestinely inside my heart by the light of Love that wasn't bright enough for me to be noticed. But no sooner I entered, a clamour has already arisen there. The fire of love, no matter how small, is very raging.

Chhu Sultan soz waayaan, gosho paninev boozmasai.

Patimi pyare: پٔتۍمہِ پیارے : Last stage of night.

Troprin: تروپرن : To shut/cover tightly

Laye: لٕیہِ : collection of small holes

Gosh: گوشَ : Ears

I eavesdropped at the fag end( of night), closed the lattice and windows,

Heart is playing symphony, with my own ears I heard(it).

Closing lattice and windows means meditating in the seclusion by way of closing eyes, ears and mouth. Poet tells his friend that I tried to find God and during the search I found my heart playing the symphony of love. In Sufism heart is abode of God. Hearing heart playing symphony may mean that the poet found God by searching him away from the world.

Huu'ik naaran ditum josh, ruhas kornam faramosh,

Wuchhum tattie la-nihayat, thah mey laeyim sodarasai.

Thah: تھاہ : Dive

Sodir: سٔدر : Ocean

The fire of Remembrance of beloved inflamed me, made my soul forget itself.

I saw limitless (depth), (so) dived into this very ocean.

Hu literally means "He is" and connotes the only and the ultimate existence. The fervour of this existence made my the soul to forget its own existence. And when I saw the sea of love depthless, I jumped into it to find existence by becoming non-existent.

Wuchakhna parde tallie, mey na yim daaed ballie,

Settha sharmand gomut, Nyameh paninisie kaarasai.

I wish being seen (even if) from behind the curtain, (O my beloved) my agonies doesn't wither away.

Nyama has become very ashamed of his actions and deeds.

Poet is sure about his deeds in the path of love being not upto the mark but still wishes to be reciprocated in order to cure his afflictions arising out of the love.
