6. Shams Faqir: Chukh haii beena wonn...
Chukh haii beena, wonni di paanas,
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
If you are sagacious, reflect upon your own self,
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
Explanation: Tas/that i.e., third person pronoun, have been used to address one's own self. The shade i.e., the veil of ignorance of recognising God doesn't vanish without realising one's own cause of existence.
Rah kyah ladde bu tas baagwaanas,
Gulzar waevnam, soyi kuli aam.
Sag mey dichyamas, soy lajim paanas;
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
Rah ladun: To accuse
What accusation will I bring forth against the gardener,
Flowers he sowed; the nettle sprouted.
I watered it, (but) with that very nettle got stung;
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
The guide/mentor gave me good things to search but I did not follow his advice resulting in the growth of bad things in my life. I tended to the bad things so much so that like nettle they stung me only. The ignorant soul of mine is still under the shadow of ignorance.
Baezigaaras baaez chhey paanas,
Tas chhi gachhan mandinen shaam.
Be zarr aasi tai kyah pevvi daanas;
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
Mandnen shaam gachhun : مندنین شام گژھُن : Be empty handed at the end of the day after wasting all the fruitful time.
The conjurer has deception for himself only,
The day sets for him at the midday.
If without riches, what will he put on the hearth;
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
A person trying to trick others trick himself in the long run. As Qur'an (2:09) says
"They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not."
He doesn't accumulate anything while he continues with his tricks of avoiding search of God. Setting of day at midday means gaining nothing and be empty handed by the end of day or life. One who has nothing in kitty at sunset cannot light the hearth (to prepare food) even if he wishes to. Likewise, a person having not realised God can do nothing at the fag end of his life even if he wishes to. When will the shadow of trickery vanish from my soul so that it sets on the path of cognisance!
Nasihat karizene nasl e Shaitaanas,
Talle kani zaenizen aasi ma khaam.
Mourifat barizene napaak baanas,
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
Don’t counsel the person with traits of Satan,
Assume that he may be unripe (for the counsel).
Don’t infuse cognition of God into the impure vessels;
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
A person whose core is devilish should not be counselled for even Qur'an (2:06) says,
Indeed, those who disbelieve - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.
Yus wassi ashiqinis sadras sraanas,
Sarr tas sapdi Meem Alif Laam.
Thapp sui hekki dith dur e irfaanas;
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
One who dives for cleansing into the ocean of love,
He will know the meaning of unknown.
That only can place his hand on the pearl of cognisance;
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
Ashqun sadir : Ocean of love
Dur e Irfan: Pearl of cognisance
Shams mott mushtaq Haq Subhaanas,
Ilaahi dar Jahan thaav myon naam.
Khaam khaett zoon khenni peth aasmaanas;
Tas nadaanas kar chhalli chhaay.
Shamas, the enchanted, is desirous of the God,
O God, in the world keep my name alive.
The unripe have ascended the sky to eat the moonlight,
When will the shade fade away from that ignorant!
Zoon kheni khasun: زوٗن کھینہِ کھسُن : Exaggerated self-importance/Vanity
The poet prays for his name to be immortalised by way of being one with the God. He considers himself as an unripe lover intoxicated with vanity and wishes fading of the shadow of ignorance from him.
