7. Shams Faqir: Allah te Hu Hu...

Allah te Hu Hu chhum dar manai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

Ami loale naaran zaej myeen tanai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

Allah and his remembrance is within my Self,

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifestation (of God).

This fire of love burnt my body,

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifestation (of God).

Explanation:

If you want Almighty to be manifest, seek him quietly within your heart by way of love. Since Almighty cannot be seen, the way of love is the only way by which he could be perceived. This is the theme of the whole poem.

Rindan gindaan pyov darshanai,

Zindagi labikh te wuchukh noor,

Tooras soor gov partov pennai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

The lovers in amusement obtained the glimpse,

Found their life and saw the splendour.

The Mount Tur turned to ashes without catching a ray,

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifestation (of God).

Explanation:

The lovers found true meaning of life even when they perceived the beloved while they were amusing themselves with the intoxication (i.e., intoxication of love). The Mount Tur had no such thing as love of beloved and it turned into ashes even when it was firmly standing to bear the glimpse. So, it is the love that breathes life into a lover. Without love everything is as good as ashes.

Aebid te zaehid chhi tami shaayi zenai,

Waehid tamikui chhi sheikh Mansoor.

Ann taem dopnai mourifat chenai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

Devout and abstinent are yet to be born there,

Sole (possessor) of “it” is Sheikh Mansoor.

“I am”, he said even without drinking the realization (of God),

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifestation (of God).

Explanation:

“There” means the world of love and “It” here means love. Devout is after its beloved in search of good life here and in hereafter. The abstinent is after the beloved in search of blissful permanent abode i.e., Paradise. Only a person in love wants to get dissolved into its beloved. As Allama Iqbal says, Yeh Jannat Mubarak rahe zaahidun ko, ki me aapka saamna chahta hu”. Sheikh Mansoor said that he is the truth and the clergy blamed him that had he realised God, he would not have claimed “I am the truth”.

Achhav bozakh ti kann wuchhnai,

Maqaam e Mahmood sapdi hazoor.

Raftaar guftaar tami shaayi chhunai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

You will listen by eyes and ears will see,

The Praised Station will be in front of you; or

(The Praised Station will come to your perception).

That place is beyond perception of conduct and discourse,

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifesting.

Explanation:

The function of eyes is to see and that of ears is to hear. Since the third line of the stanza posits that the perception of that place is beyond realization by way of worldly actions, listening by eyes and seeing by ears may mean that the whole body will perceive the stage despite the different functions of the individual organs. The Praised Station is reserved for Prophet(saw) only. Here it may mean that the person in love will feel the right over the highest attribute of the Praised Station (i.e., Intercession by Prophet(saw). Or alternatively, the person in love will perceive the intercession for himself even while being alive.

Bu ha sirr Shams Faqeerov wanai,

Sarr traav pathar dar makhmoor.

Sui achhi yas tattie bar muchharnai,

Bu kya wanai iy gov Zahoor.

I will tell you a secret O Shams Faqeer,

Down your head in intoxication (caused by love).

Only that one will enter, for whom the door will be opened,

I cannot explain (but) this is what is called manifestation (of God).

Explanation:

Poet at last discloses the secret to find God, the secret to see manifestation of God, the secret to dissolve in God, the secret to obtain the right over the attribute of the exalted status. The secret is to lower the head before the beloved in love. Only those persons will enter the abode of love for whom the doors will be thrown open. And the secret to get the doors opened again is love. And once the doors are open, the real manifestation of God will be before you. Ali Mohammad Gilkar RA also says to the same effect like this.

Gaari yessie darbaar torai, laari sui.

[One who is longed by the Court itself, that only will run towards it.]

A person cannot love God unless God wishes so.
