سنہِ کھوت سون یے چوْن دریاو
سٔدرس منز چھوئی لال تابۂ وُنۂ یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Aakash aaesith laagtov onnye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
Saedras manz chhui laal taabwunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
Despite being foresighted(wise), pretend to be blind,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
In the ocean (he) is the dazzling jewel,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
A person may be knowledgeable and wise in worldly and religious matters but it is advised to listen to the spiritual guide if one wants to be successful. A spiritual guide, as against the common wise and knowledgeable people, is repository of love hence compared with dazzling jewel in the ocean of love. Only a person who considers himself shallow can drink deep of this river of love.
یود وے عاشق چُھکھ معشوقس
معشوق زانتن صاحبِ حال
معشوق پانس سٔتی گوژھ ہیون یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Yodwai aashiq chukh mashoqas,
Mashoq zaantan saahib e haal.
Mashoq paanas seeit gochh hyonye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
If you really are a lover of the beloved,
Consider the beloved to be enlightened.
The beloved should first take (lover) into his company,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Love your spiritual guide so that he takes you in his divine company. Only then can you drink from the river of love that he possess.
عأش آرام نوش ژٔی کرتو
سرتو پیر سند کار اذکار/سیر اصرار
دم دِتھ نیری کن فیکن یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Aaesh aaraam noash chhiy kar tov,
Sar tov peer sund kaar e azkaar.
Dam dith neeri kun fayakunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
Eat (i.e., annihilate) the the leasure and luxury,
Bear in mind the remembrance of Allah as prescribed by the Spiritual Guide.
Sit in meditation, you will get the quality of "Kun Fayakun",
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Follow strictly the path shown by your Spiritual Guide and you will get the divine power by drinking from his river of divine powers bestowed upon him by the Almighty.
فکرِ منز روزوُنی ذکرِ منز ہر دم
سرخم پانس کورُکھ شب و روز
کھین چُھکھ پتو خوٗن پنُن یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Fikri manz rozwuin zikri manz hardum,
Sar kham paanas korukh shab o roz.
Khen chukh pato khoon panunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
All time being engrossed (and) in the remembrance of God,
Did bow their head day and night.
Their ultimate food is their own blood,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
These spiritual guides are not repository of love for no reason. Infact they were bestowed upon this after they annihilated themselves and sacrificed even the worldly desires that are lawful to be fulfilled by the common masses.
گوش تھاو زیر و بمس تِہ نادس
وعدس ہوش تھاو ہردم ژٔی
زیرِ روْس زیر و بم گژھی وزُن یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Goash thaav zeer o bamas ti naadas,
Waadas hosh thaav hardum chhiy.
Zeri ros zeer o bam gachhi wazunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
Be all the ears to the tune of heart and the call to the Lord,
Be you mindful of the promise every moment.
Even without the slightest nudge the heart must set it's tune,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Zer o Bam here means the continuous remembrance of Almighty in the heart. There are certain invocations that act like ups and downs of certain musical instruments. A person must be so much absorbed into the love of Almighty that even without any nudge or reminder from others, the heart must all time set its tune to the remembrance of the Almighty. Promise is what souls replied when Almighty Allah asked "الست بربکم"
کہنٔچ زان چھے عارفن پانس
نۓ در نۓ چھے پانس نش
ترے جورِ ترے یار، یار روٗد کُن یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Kehnich zaan chhey aarifan paanas,
Nai dar nai chhey paanas nish.
Tre joari tre yaar, yaar rooid kunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
The enlightened ones have with themselves the acquaintance of the God,
Flute over flute (this acquaintance) is with them.
Three pairs, three friends, all of them are united,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Kehne(کہنٔہ) literally means "Except Him nothing" i.e., Almighty Allah. As explained in previous poem, Sufis equate head of a human being with that of a flute. A Sufi meditates in a particular way by shutting all the senses associated with hearing, seeing, smelling, speaking and feeling. Three pairs means two ears, two eyes and two nostrils. Three friends united means shutting of these senses together and meditating.
کنگہ نار چُھم ہنگہ زالانۓ
رنگۂ سازس رنگ بے نشان
وون عأرفو دیْت، چُھنۂ سُہ بیْون یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Kange naar chhum zan hange zaalaanai,
Rangsaazas rang benishaan.
Wonn aarifov dyut, chhun su byonye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
The fire of the kang is burning my intellect,
The colours of the Painter are impression less.
The enlightened ones contemplated, (and declared) He is not separate,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Kang i.e., un-wickered Kangir. Equated with a heart burning in love. Explained in previous poem of Shams Faqir. The fiery love is burning my intellect as I want to perceive my Beloved. He gives colour to everything and is yet of no colour. The enlightened ones (that include here the spiritual guide) relieved my burning when they declared that the Beloved is not separate from your ownself.
شمسؔ فقیر پیر زانوُن یے
سیرابس پیٹھ نقش بناو
گیر ینۂِ گژھکھ، رأوی بھگتہ وُن یے
سنہِ کھوتہ سوْن یے چوْن دریاو
Shams Faqir Peer zaanwunye,
Seraabas peth naqsh e banaav.
Geer yinne ghachakh, raavi bhagtwunye,
Sanni khotte sonye choan darya.
Shams Faqir acknowledges the Spiritual guide,
Creates impression on the mirage (mind).
Beware of being bewildered, you will lose whatever u have earned in love,
Deeper than the deepest (you have to) drink the river.
Explanation:
Shams Faqir believes in Pupil-Spiritual Guide relationship. Etch this thing on your mind, which, as against the love, is a mirage i.e., an illusion. Don't let your mind preplex you into the denial of this relationship or you will lose whatever endeavours you might have put into finding the love of Almighty. If you are not bewildered by this relationship then you will definitely drink deep from the river of love of your Spiritual Guide.
