Jiya Lal Koul’s Translation:
In life I sought neither wealth nor power,
Nor ran after the pleasure of sense.
Moderate in food and drink, I lived a controlled life,
Patiently bore my lot, my pain and poverty,
And loved my God.
My translation:
On getting life I didn’t pursue the grandeur,
The desires and delights I didn’t love.
Moderate food provisions I considered enough,
I bore afflictions and tyranny, (but) obeyed God.
