ہچو ہأرنج پیژیُو کان گوم

ابکھ چھان پیوم یتھ رازدانے

منزباگ بازرس قلفہء روْس وان گوم

تیرتھ روْس پان گوم, کُس مالہِ زانے

 

Transliteration:

Hachiv haerinj, petchuv kaan gom,

Abakh chhan pyom yath razdaanay.

Manzbaag baazras qulfe ros waan gom,

Teerath ros paan gom, kus maale zaanay.

 

Vocabulary:

ہأرنج: Bow

 پیژیُو: Of Reed

 کان: Arrow

 ابکھ: Unlearnt/Unskilled

 رازدانے: Palace

 تیرتھ: Sacred waters/ Pilgrimage

 

Jiya Lal Koul's translation:

A wooden bow and rush grass for an arrow;

A carpenter unskilled and a palace to build;

A shop unlocked in a busy bazaar;

Oh dear, who knows what hath befallen me?

 

Nand Lal Koul's translation:

لکڑی کی تھی کمان, ملا تیر گھاس کا

نجار بیوقوف ملا قصر کے لیے

بازار میں دوکان رہی قفل کے بغیر

میرا بدن نہ پاک زیارت سے ہوسکا

کس حال میں ہوں اسکی کسی کو خبر نہیں

 

My translation/Explanation:

I have become wooden bow and reed arrow (i.e., useless against enemy: ego and devil),

An unlearnt carpenter this palace got (by palace she may have meant her own self).

I have become a lockless shop in the middle of a market (i.e., I am susceptible to loot from ego/devil),

My own self has become devoid of cleansing (by sacred waters/pilgrimage); Nobody knows this (and hence inconsolable), Oh my dear!
