 أرنہِ مال

کیا کرٔ رووُم سُہ، ونۂ نے پھیران

سوران چُھم نو آدنک سریہہ۔

کُکلا أسِس تھرِ اول ییران

سونتچِہ وُزملہِ گنڈنم ریہہ۔

زُلفچہِ گرایہ سِئتِی گیٗور چُھم گیران

سوران چُھم نو آدنک سریہہ۔

Transliteration:

Kya karre rovum su, wannai phairaan,

Soraan chhum ne aadnuk sreh.

Kukila aesis thiri oal yairaan,

Sontchi vuzmal'i gendnam reh.

Zulfichi graayi seeit gyuur chhum gairaan,

Soraan chhum ne aadnuk sreh.

Vocabulary:

پھیران: To miss someone

سوران: To fade off/dry out

آدنک: Of childhood/of starting of time

تھرِ: Twigs

ییران: To weave

Translation:

What shall I do, I lost him, just saying (it) makes me miss(my beloved),

The moisture (love) of childhood is not drying off.

I was dove weaving a twig nest,

The spring lightening encompassed me in flames.

The flutter of your forelocks (and) spinning of my head encompasses me,

The moisture (love) of childhood is not drying off.

Note:

Arnimaal was born in Palhalan in around 1730s and married to Munshi Bhawani Das Kachru of Srinagar at an early age. However, he deserted Arnimal. She returned to Palhalan and her painful poetry of separation starts here. It is said when finally it descended upon Mr. Kachru to take back Arnimaal, her last rites were being performed when he reached Palhalan.
